Safe Biking Behaviors
Stop at all stop signs. Look both ways for cars, pedestrians, and other rollers before proceeding.
Stop at all traffic lights and wait until the lead volunteers say it is OK to proceed.
Stay behind the lead adults.
Wait to cross busy streets (Federal, Lowell, Irving, 38th, 32nd, etc.) until the lead volunteers say it is OK. We cross all busy streets as a group.
Bike on the right hand side of the road, in a straight line.
Helmets are strongly recommended.
Kids 3rd grade and older that are confident riders and understand these Safe Biking Behaviors are welcome to be dropped off and ride with the group.
Kids in ECE, Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade should have a parent ride next to them to ensure their safety.
Participants must agree to the Edison Bike Bus Liability Waiver.
Edison Bike Bus Liability Waiver & Release
By joining or participating in any Edison Bike Bus ride or event, you agree to the following terms.
Please read carefully—this affects your legal rights.
Volunteers strive to create a safe and supportive environment, but biking and walking on city streets involve inherent risks.
Children in grades ECE–2 must ride with a parent or guardian.
Children in grades 3–5 may ride independently only if they are confident riders who understand traffic laws and Edison Bike Bus rules.
Helmets are strongly recommended.
Edison Bike Bus volunteers coordinate rides but do not provide supervision—parents remain responsible for their children at all times.
Participants agree to:
Provide their own bicycle, scooter, or other vehicle as well as helmet and any necessary safety gear.
Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition (brakes, tires, lights, etc.).
Follow all traffic laws, signals, and directions from Edison Bike Bus volunteers.
Ride safely, courteously, and predictably.
Edison Bike Bus volunteers do not inspect or maintain participants’ equipment and assume no responsibility for its condition or suitability.
Unsafe or disruptive behavior may result in removal from the Activity.
Biking and walking in public areas—including streets, parking lots, sidewalks, school grounds, and shared-use paths or trails—involve inherent risks, including falls, collisions, equipment failure, surface hazards, weather, and interaction with traffic or other users. These risks can cause injury, property damage, or death.
You are responsible for ensuring that you and any child or dependent participant under your care are physically able and skilled enough to participate safely. Edison Bike Bus does not perform health, ability, or equipment checks.
By participating, you voluntarily assume all risks—known and unknown—associated with the Activity, both for yourself and for any child or dependent participant you accompany or authorize to participate.
Edison Bike Bus suggests routes and meeting locations believed to be safe and enjoyable, including streets, parking lots, sidewalks, and shared-use paths, but cannot guarantee safety. Conditions may change due to traffic, weather, construction, or other hazards.
Participants must use their own judgment and may alter or stop their ride if conditions appear unsafe.
By participating, you certify that you and/or your child are physically fit and medically able to take part.
In the event of an injury or emergency, Edison Bike Bus volunteers may seek medical care and transportation as needed. Volunteers are not medical professionals and assume no liability for their good-faith actions.
By participating, you agree to waive all claims and hold harmless the following parties (“Released Parties”):
Edison Bike Bus, Edison PTA, Edison Elementary School, Denver Public Schools, the City and County of Denver, and all associated organizers, volunteers, partners, and sponsors.
You release the Released Parties from any liability for injury, death, property damage, or other loss arising from participation—except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
You also agree to indemnify and defend the Released Parties from any claims arising from your or your child’s participation, including reasonable attorney’s fees.
Helmet use is strongly recommended. You understand that a helmet cannot prevent all injuries and that wearing one does not guarantee safety.
Edison Bike Bus may take photographs or videos of participants for communications and promotional purposes.
If you prefer not to be included, please contact the organizers in writing.
If any part of this Agreement is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Colorado.
By joining, volunteering with, or allowing your child to participate in any Edison Bike Bus event, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to this Release and Waiver.
Participation indicates your consent and intention to be legally bound by these terms.
